The Mountains are calling...
12 years ago we moved up to a charming little town with the subtle scent of evergreens, breathtaking views and some of the kindest, most genuine people you've ever met. My husband and I both grew up at the beach, but we longed to "slow down" and live amongst the forest and mountains and rivers and streams and wildlife...you get my drift! "The mountains are calling, and I must go" resonates deep within me -- they are overpowering, majestic and have a pure, relentless nature. The mountains inspire me in so many aspects of my life -- they somehow steady my heart and my mind. They quiet my racing thoughts and life's cut-throat deadlines. They challenge me just being in their presence. Nature has always nurtured me and I feel most at peace when I am outdoors. There are no distractions when you are outdoors, just the sound of your footsteps and the incredible sounds that nature sings -- the wind, the babbling streams, birds, rustling of the leaves. Being connected to nature is oh-so-good for my soul. So when we were out of options for Adam's health -- it's no surprise we ended up finding the answers in nature. {Side note: this is why I am so incredibly passionate about natural health. We were out of options and facing a shortened life expectancy...we didn't have anyone in our court knowledgable about natural medicine. This is why I became certified in holistic health and continuing education so that I can come alongside people in their journey and help them find answers. Being in this space, is waaaaaaay less scary than where we once were.} Think about this: if all modern conveniences were to go away, we would absolutely be adequately sustained by nature -- food, water, medicine. Our society has gotten away from this, and as a result while we are advanced in so many ways -- we've also regressed in so many ways. Our nation is sicker than it's ever been and last I read, the U.S. was ranked "the worst in health and performed badly when it came to population health." Sound the alarms...it's not working, right? If nothing else, we've got to at least change the path our own families are headed down. Natural health is not complicated and it shouldn't be intimidating. I promise, it's a lot easier than you think. The quality and sourcing of natural remedies is extremely important -- being aware of sustainable practices, thorough testing, farmers & growers, distillation and indigenous sourcing is of utmost importance. Adam is so good and always telling me that he wants us to "invest in our health and wellness." We've been on both sides of the fence -- and we are here to say, that it is a much better space to be in when you are healthy and well, rather than sick and depleted...and hopeless. I am so mindful of our investment into our family's health -- local organic food, natural remedies and medicine, non-toxic cleaners, deodorants, etc. Reducing our family's toxic exposure and teaching them natural options -- is something near-and-dear to my heart. Much like our great-grandparents and grandparents passed along tips to us when we were little...it seems it's a lost art these days. I want my kids to know to reach for lemon when they are congested or use cinnamon when they are fighting a virus. With so many harmful things bombarding our kids and society these days -- natural health is such a sweet gift. There's no side effects and in so many cases, it's far more effective than the options that are out there. That's kinda how Simple Oil Girl was born -- she was simply a mama to 4 kids with a super sick husband who wasn't expected to live much longer. Our journey wasn't easy, but where we are now and the ability to help others -- is exactly where we want to be.
{Sweet} blessing to you,
Carey
